Taxi Van Medic

SETTLEMENT DATE – JULY 2015

Two women with disabilities each filed a complaint against this taxi intermediary, who used private and illegal practices at the very least to discriminate.

The alleged facts were that the accessible and adapted taxi company overloaded customers in wheelchairs, on the pretext that it took a few minutes to attach and detach them (harness) or even gave another reason to know that they were charging more because the Quebec Department of Transport did not subsidize them for the adaptation of their vehicle and they were trying to “repay” little by little this way.

Also, they took a minimum fee of $ 20 on a run that would have cost
$ 8 and without the customer even asking, Taxi Van Medic decided on their own to establish lump sums, rather than taximeter trips.

The two mediation sessions were not conclusive, an introductory motion had to be filed with the Human Rights Tribunal (TDP) and while waiting, an out-of-court agreement arose for the cessation of the alleged acts and moral damages for each of the victims.

Settlement by out-of-court agreement.
