Did you know that…?
For people using a wheelchair who cannot transfer, VIA RAIL Canada inc. offered only one “accessible” seat in the entire locomotive.
So if a person in this situation wanted to travel with his / her spouse, friend, colleague in the same situation, then they would have to take two different trains and arrive and return at different times. later, thus losing precious time.
This was completely unacceptable and although new cars scheduled to arrive in 2022 and where there will now be five (5) accessible places for people in non-transferable wheelchairs, there had to be transportation alternative allowing two people to travel together, doing otherwise was a discrimination.
RAPLIQ therefore approached VIA RAIL and submitted its concerns and we are happy to announce this great victory and that following our intervention, we thank VIA RAIL for having developed an internal policy, as well as the development of a implementation process.
We leave it to you to read this great news and thank VIA for remaining the leader in accessibility.
