Only one accessible Metro station in 3 years : Disabled people cannot wait anymore!

We denounce the slowness of Montreal Metro’s accessibilization process. STM’s budget, which will be adopted by the City today, does not promise to make any station accessible. The Triennial Immobilization Plan (2011-2013) aims to retrofit only one station with elevators within the next three years. At this pace, the Metro will be completely accessible in 2194. Information published by Le Journal 24 Heures states that four stations would be equipped with elevators by 2016, meaning that the service would be fully accessible in 2085.

The Metro’s inaccessibility prevents thousands of Montrealers from commuting freely.

Several disabled people will participate in the City Council to express their discontent towards these outrageous plans. They will remind the councilors and the public that Quebec and Canada signed the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
