Institut de Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ)

SETTLEMENT DATE – JUNE 2018

On March 31, 2017, the RAPLIQ realized that the ITHQ, the Mecca of culinary, hotel and tourist education in Montreal, was in the process of building an outdoor terrace and adjoining the Restaurant de l’Instittut.

When you went inside, you quickly realized that there was an elevation of at least 50 centimeters and perhaps more, between the restaurant floor and the terrace floor. No ramp seemed to be planned, no installation, whether indoor or outdoor. We inquired as to whether it was to become accessible and we were told that we did not believe.

The RAPLIQ called the management and was told that it would not be accessible for SECURITY REASONS for their students !!!

We checked with the contractual affairs and strategic planning advisor, who confirmed the information.

On June 15, 2017, a man traveling in a three-wheeler contacted us to tell us that he wanted to have lunch on the ITHQ terrace and obviously could not and he asked us to help him, but did not didn’t want to file a formal complaint right away.

We made representations and had a meeting with the directors of the ITHQ, but we did not feel a great desire on their part.

Then, the gentleman of June returned to see us in November and wished to file a formal complaint for the refusal of access suffered in June 2017.

There was mediation and what the complainant asked for was granted, that is, making the terrace accessible by installing a lifting platform and an electric door opening mechanism. from the patio, which was fine, but might not be able to accommodate all types of mobility aids.

A meal for two at the Restaurant of the Institute and payment of moral damages, but the best is the joint press release that was made:
