Improving Accessibility of Taxi Services through Innovative Collaboration

QUEBEC, Nov. 25, 2024 /CNW/ – The Regroupement des activistes pour l’inclusion au Québec (RAPLIQ), the Regroupement des organismes de personnes handicapées de la région de Québec (ROP03), and Taxi Coop Québec 525-5191 announce a collaboration aimed at improving the accessibility of taxi services for people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

“We are proud to announce this series of measures designed to make our services more accessible to everyone.” – Nabil Fezza, President, Coop-Taxi

Key Initiatives:

Assistance for Vulnerable Individuals: Taxi Coop drivers are trained to assist people with disabilities, reduced mobility, the elderly, pregnant women, and parents with children under 5. They are required to assist with boarding and alighting, as well as handling luggage.

Service for Assistance Animals: Taxi Coop’s mobile app now allows users to notify the presence of a service dog, ensuring an adapted service.

Wheelchair Management: Drivers are required to place clients’ manual wheelchairs in the trunk of the vehicle, without refusing for reasons such as dirty wheels.

Training: Taxi Coop Québec (525-5191) will receive training from the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, specifically on the rights of people with disabilities.

“These measures benefit not only people with disabilities, but also the elderly, families with young children, and pregnant women, which is very gratifying.” – Jean-Michel Bernier, President, ROP03

“Taxi Coop demonstrates that collaboration between private companies and organizations advocating for the rights of people with disabilities can lead to significant progress towards a more inclusive society.” – Steven Laperrière, Executive Director, RAPLIQ
