SETTLEMENT DATE – JUNE 2016
A woman traveling in a motorized wheelchair wanted to go celebrate her wedding anniversary on the cruise ship “Cavalier Maxim” of Croisières AML Inc., which offers a gourmet dinner lasting three and a half hours, on the Saint River -Laurent.
When she calls to make a reservation and wishes to verify that the boat does not present any constraints as regards accessibility, the attendant mentions that the Maxim Rider is accessible to people traveling in a manual wheelchair only. The reason is that there is no ramp and people with disabilities should be carried in their wheelchairs overboard. The bathrooms are well perched at the top of 14 steps!
The reservations officer may try to convince the complainant to become that the latter had no other choice than to file this complaint before the CDPDJ.
Mediation agreement:
- Accessibility by access ramp and fitting out and extension of the washroom on the lowest deck;
- Gift card of $ 2,000 which will be used to thank the people who collaborated and their spouse;
- Universal accessibility policy.
